One of the most renowned architects of his generation, David Adjaye (whose recent works include the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo and the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management) puts aside his purely architectural projects to photograph and document the major African cities, as part of a continuing project to study the patterns of construction and urbanism in Africa. This collection of photographs is a personal search, driven by the limited existing knowledge of urban environments in Africa.
Exhibition of his photographs Urban Africa will be open to the public in Lisbon, Portugal till July, 31. Urban Africa emphasizes three basic concepts used in the reading of 52 featured cities: geographical categorization, recognition of the modern, cosmopolitan nature and the importance attached to the emotional content.
